Cheese School Experience Tour in the Macahil Valley

Would you like to know where the flavor of the magnificent Georgian cheeses, prepared with great effort, comes from? Would you even like to make them together with the local people?

We are heading to Artvin’s villages on the Georgian mountain border, the Macahel Valley, Turkey’s first and only biosphere reserve area. We will be surrounded by endemic vegetation, streams, waterfalls, and the tranquility of villages and highlands. We invite you to join us for magnificent tours in Macahel, a region minimally affected by the Instagram effect, where you can experience Georgian culture and attend a cheese school.

The production of many types of cheese, such as Gorcola and Kuruti, naturally begins with the care of animals and milking. We separate the cream from the milk using a finely tuned manual machine, with a level of craftsmanship akin to meditation. We then allow the cheese to undergo a series of processes specific to each type.

During this waiting period, we go on trips to get to know the local culture better and see the natural beauty. We visit the historic İremit Mosque and the enchanting Maral Waterfall.

We go on nature walks in the rainforests. We visit 1,200-year-old monument trees. Finally, we relax by swimming in water so clean we can drink it.

We recommend a 4-night, 5-day tour program covering the Macahel region, including the Citta Slow-certified Şavşat and Boyisfer reserve areas. However, you can also visit famous places in the nearby region, such as the Hemşin highlands in Rize. You can join our experiential tours in this region, such as tea and honey tours.

To join this tour, please let us know your desired travel dates, the number of people, and any special preferences you may have. We will get back to you as soon as possible with a customized itinerary.

If participants prefer to stay alone in a room by paying a single supplement, single accommodation will be provided based on availability and reservation order.
